Ethics

The topic of Ethics is rather large and encompasses so many things.

How do you promote your practice and yet remain true to yourself?

Do you sway in the wind and waffle in certain situations or do you stand true to what you believe in?

Hard questions to be sure, and there are many more but they are one's that we need to ask ourselves.

The medical profession has been wrestling with ethics for years, and ethics legislation has evolved as medicine itself has evolved.

Gone are the days when nurses followed every direction that a doctor gave her, now nurses (male and female) feel

comfortable questioning the doctor as they want to make sure that the patient receives appropriate care, and that the

patient's rights have not been infringed upon. In addition, minors and the incapacitated have guardians either family caregivers

or court appointed officials to advocate on their behalf.

These patient or client's rights include full disclosure of any and all medical procedures including the risks and benefits so that they can make an educated decision as to what is appropriate for them.

It is with kind of scrutiny that the medical profession is now focusing on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Therapies. Reiki is located under the umbrella of Energy Medicine within the CAM field.

give full disclosure to our clients of the risks and benefits of having a Reiki session.
are you a member of an association and are you bound by their Code of Ethics?
do you require your clients to sign a consent and release form?
do you have a uniform, do you have good hygiene practices?
are you aware of infectious diseases
what steps do you take to keep your clients records confidential?
do you have mal-practice insurance?
do you explore with your client's any concerns or questions they have about Reiki?
in addition, are there any cultural concerns?
have you written a Privacy Policy and is it prominently displayed? (This has been a Canadian Law since 2004)
